Worshop No 21, Randy takes action · Jan 7, 12:35 PM

General things

Clases started one week later due to porcine flu. This
same situation produced low assitance of kids to the schools.

In both workshops all the kids worked together, one place
differente tasks. In Concepcion and Andres Bello we have what we called a Model
Corridor.

From waste to art

In Concepcion and Andres Bello we worked divides in two
groups. One did plastic butterflies and other banners with environmental
messages for the school.

Ecological gardens

Main objective: To teach what a host plant is

Activities:

To reach the objective we bought some plants that work as
host plants. We planted them around the schools and explain to the kids the
lyfe cycle of a buttlerfly.

As an extra activity in Concepcion we took more tires to
paint and use them as pots. We planted different plants with flowers.

Waste management

Concepcion School

1. We made a brainstorm about the difference between
garbage and waste, then we explain to the kids what a recycling center is. We
also went to see the spot where the school recycling center is going to be.

2. We buried different waste materials so the kids can
see (again) how long some materials take to decompose.

3. Homework we asked the kids to make a story telling the
Together for water experience. This homework will work as an evaluation for us.

Andres Bello

1. We made a brainstorm about the difference between
garbage and waste, then we explain to the kids what a recycling center is. We
also went to see  the school
recycling center.

2. We practiced the campaing song.

Vegetable Gardens

Planting medicinal plants and cabbage

We showed the kids how different plants can be planted in
different kind of containers. We also used some of the time to give some
maintenance to the garden, then we prepared the soil and plant some cabbage.

Most of the plants where healthy and good after the three
weeks break, kids were happy.

In Andres Bello plants were big but not as good, kids
weren´t that motivated. The spiral was broken so we decided not finish it. Kids
did´nt demonstrate interest.

Murals

Alajuelita

We continued painting the medicinal and creative garden
sign. We also started painting the Model Corridor. The day went well and it was
very refreshing to see kids working different things in the same area.
