Located in Talamanca’s Mountain chain, approximately 20 Km North-East from San Isidro del General one finds the National Park Chirripó, with an extension of 50.150 hectares.
Inside the park zones there is a deserted region, and a cloudy and humid forest. The park includes the highest mountain of the country, the Chirripó with 3.820 meters
The most Geomorphologic interesting discoveries that has been done one of the Chirripó, is the glaciers shaped in "U", (approximately 25.000 years ago).
The park protects the top basin of the Rio Chirripó Pacífico, tributary of the great basin of the Rio Térraba; and the top basin of the Rio Chirripó Atlántico, principal tributary of the river Matina. The protection of these basins with their infinity of creeks and springs provide high quality water for domestic, agricultural, industrial and hydroelectric use.

The climate of the park is very changing and imprevisible, and depends specially on the altitude. In general itis very humid between May and December; and becomes very dry and sunny in January to April. The highest parts are subject to strong winds, frosts, frequent drizzles and to sudden changes of temperature (the lowest registered in the Chirripó and in the country, has been of 9 C under zero)

The average annual rainfall is 3.500 mm, to 5.000 mm
