We started our Workshops with a conference called “Life in Rivers”.
We spoke to kids about different life forms we find in Rivers,
specially insects and the job they do as water quality indicators due
the pollution tolerance ranks they have.video

Then, we went to each classroom and developed the next activities:

1.    We put clean water and polluted water insects in different recipients; next to them a complete field guide so the kids with a magnifying glass identify them, which they did very well.
They loved the activity and showed a lot of interest.

2.    After the identification part they worked in sub-groups, each one of them received a drawing and basic information of different insect species. They made a research about the insects such as habits, places we can find them, food they eat, etc; then they made a sign with all these information and explain it to the rest of the class.

We have to make a point in the fact that kids really enjoy activities like this, where they feel like scientist working on research.
