Willing to approach kids to weather theme and how it influences our lives (example floods) we explained them some basic aspects of meteorology and its importance for humans.

Then we showed them how to build four weather instruments from simple materials:

The compass

First we magnetize the needle rubbing it against a magnet, and then we stick it into a cork and put it in a plastic container with water. The needle moves until it founds the north due to magnetic fields.

2. Weather vane
To indicate us wind direction. In a piece of cardboard kids marked the cardinal points, in the middle with a piece of plasticine they attached a pencil with an arrow made from a straw and paper.
Many kids showed their creativity with this activity.

3.    Rain gauge
Kids cut off the top of the bottle, turned it upside down, and placed it on top of the base making a funnel.  They hold the pieces together with adhesive tape so they won’t move.   With a marker and a ruler, they painted the millimeters outside the bottom part of the bottle.  Soon kids will place it in an open space where they can measure how much rain its falling in their schools.

4.    Air pollution measurer
With a coffee filter we wrap a can. When we put it in the open space the color of the paper will change due to air impurities.
