Before and after: A reflexion about rivers · Nov 21, 10:47 AM
Activity I
We started the fifth workshop showing the kids some environmental education shorts from Animal Planet : Animals save the planet, and the World Wildlife Conservation Foundation (WWF).

These videos worked as a motivation to our poetry mural called before and after: a reflex ion about rivers
Activity II
Once we finished observing the videos we started our work with the kids. We asked them about what they watched to evaluate how much they understood, the kids captured the messages very clearly, some of their comments were:
No to water waste
Let’s recycle
Let’s take care of water
Damages and problems caused by contamination
Then we asked them to think about two situations:
A contaminated river or forest
A clean river or forest
When they did it, we asked them to write at least two words that describe how the river or the forest would feel if they were able to talk.
They put all the words together and wrote a poem. Then, they wrote the poems over big papers, made nice drawings and hang them around the school.
Some of the poems kids wrote:
Dirty river
The bad thing we make to you produce your death, is sad and ugly.
Its disgusting, have a bad odor and is really dirty.
Contamination and trash, we are pigs because we throw garbage in the rivers.

Forests
Randy was walking trough the forest. He found peace, silence, lots of trees that give us air, there were fruits and he was happy.
Randy found dry trees, some dead animals and others without a home. He saw haunters and there was a lot of contamination.

Happy River
I feel happy and good. Having fun in the river is great
It’s nice swimming in clean water where we can play.
Sad River
Our river is sad and angry because people are throwing garbage in it, people are contaminating, smells ugly and its dirty and uncomfortable.
Oceans are dying because all the contamination.

The clean river
The river is clean and fresh, it’s happy with all the birds, trees and animals. There are stones under the water and it feels good when little fishes swim trough your feet and people goes there to eat and fish with white sand and green grass.

Important observations:
We found out that a lot of the kids from Concepcion School DON’T know about clean rivers, they have never seen one.
Videos were a very good motivation tool.
