We started the
project repeating last year great experience with Tin tin the clown. We had all
the kids together, introduced ourselves and then let the show started.

Tin tin is a really
good tool to break the ice with kids and leave them pretty relaxed before the
workshops.

As
part of last year learning process, we made some modifications on the workshops
to improve them.

Our first activity
began with Randy´s story:

Randy was a frog that uses to live in a lake. He was very happy because
his water was crystal clear and he shared it with fishes, plants and rocks. One
day the lake started to change its color, bad odors came out and garbage
appear. Upset with the situation our friend decided to move to a different
place, one without these threats.

Randy walked and walked for long time until he found a huge tree,
surrounded by forest. When he found that tree he decided it would be his home.
He made some observations and found out that many other animals such as ants,
birds and snakes also use the tree as their home.

One day, Randy heard motor sounds far away, astonished he realizes
someone was cutting down the forest. In that moment he made a decision: become
a nature protector, like that he asks the Sura team to help him. Now Sura team
mission is to teach kids how to take care of nature.

This story allowed us
to introduce Randy and our role in their schools.

Next we delivered the
kids some notebooks made from reuse paper; here we will keep all the notes and
drawings of the kids. We noticed that they loved this detail and to make sure
they don´t lose them we take them back with us every time.

We asked the kids to
write or draw why water is important, where it came from and what is happening
with it right now. This exercise allows us to evaluate kid’s knowledge and know
how much information we can transmit them.

Then we went outside
the classroom and introduce a tree to the kids, we invited them to hug it and
observe all those little details we usually don´t pay attention. Hugging a tree
was quite new for most of them.

Kids seem pretty
motivated and happy with the project; they are very participative and dynamic.

The social situation
of these kids is reflected in a strong way. Some of them act as they don´t
care, with strongly negative attitudes. However we don´t see this as a problem,
we see it as a challenge and we trust that the project can be a change agent in
these attitudes.
