From waste to art

Concepcion

Father’s day as a motivation and with the paper kids made in prior
sessions we create original cards and other crafts for their fathers.

Creativity and disposition of the kids from this school is always
something remarkable.

Kids from El Carmen School didn’t work this day. Instructors helped other
groups elaborating signs and other activities in the gardens.

Using plastic bottles and some paint we made signs, butterflies and
dragonflies for the gardens.

Restoring gardens

Objective: Demonstrate different ways to improve the garden

In each school we used tires, this way we showed them different ways to
plant and at the same time we taught them about how we can use reusable
materials to make the school look better.

We prepared dirt as last week, which was used to fill up the tires and
plant different species. We also put signs made by the group from waste to art.

Vegetable garden and organic
fertilizers

Objective:
Plant medicinal plants in tires

In Concepcion we finished cleaning and preparing
the soil, we picked up garbage and took away stones, some of these were use to
make a border for the garden, kids painted them.

After preparing the soil we fill the tires and
plant the medicinal plants. At the end we collocate signs to identify each
plant. Also kids made a wood sign with the name of the garden which they called
“medicinal and creative garden”

In El Carmen school we continued with the cleaning
up and also used some stones to create a rectangular border. Some kids painted
the tires while the rest prepared the dirt to plant the medicinal plants. We
also add some bottles decorated by the kids to make our garden look nicer.

In Andres Bello we also divided the group, so one
part painted tires while the other prepared the place to put them. We didn’t
put signs here because last week they didn’t take care of them, most of them
got lost so we decided to put them again until we see a real compromise in the
kids to take care of the garden or until the schools install a gate.

Waste Management and proper garbage
disposition

Concepcion

1)   Custom selection: I showed the kids different designs so they can choose one for the campaign. We also picked the kid who’s going to wear it.

2)   Recycling center: We spoke to the teacher
in
charge of these group to see the place the school choose to keep the waste materials.

3)   Finish the painting: in this session we finished painting the trashcans

4)   Homework: we asked them to bring a design for the recycling center

Andres Bello

1)   Waste talk, we explained the difference between waste and garbage, difference between organic and inorganic waste and how long it takes to some materials to decompose. We also showed them some examples of contamination with plastics.

2)   Logo election, most of them brought a design and we vote to choose one. We still need to decide because there were two favorites.

Murals

Concepcion

Our objective
this day was to start working on the sign for the vegetable garden, to do so we
first gave the kids a piece of paper to make a draft, some draw animals, others
plants, tools, flowers, etc. Then I unify them all and create one design, when
the rest approve it we started painting.

El Carmen

As in Concepcion our goal was to paint the sign for the
vegetable garden. From the start to the end kids painted between laughs and
songs…
